Port Alsworth
Port Alsworth is our home and the starting point for most of our trips aboard Odyssey. It’s a small village on Lake Clark, with gravel runways, mountains across the bay, and no road connecting us to Anchorage. For most guests, arriving here means trading the highway for a small airplane and getting their first look at the lake from above.
You can join us for a day or evening sail while you’re visiting, or stay aboard Odyssey and spend a few days exploring farther around the lake.
Arriving for your overnight stay
We’ll meet you at the airplane when you arrive in Port Alsworth and help make sure all your luggage is accounted for. From there, we’ll take you down to the beach to meet the crew, who will bring your bags aboard Odyssey while you get a look around.
First comes our little tour of Port Alsworth and a stop at the National Park Service visitor center. Then you’ll head out for the day hike to Tanalian Falls. It’s a good way to stretch your legs after the flights and spend some time in the woods.
If the Falls hike isn’t for you, that’s fine too. We can shorten that part of the day and get you aboard earlier, once Odyssey is ready. We plan for boarding after noon.
When you get back, there might be time for a milkshake at the food truck before you board Odyssey and head out on the lake.
A little time around the village
Port Alsworth is a working village as well as a place people come to visit. The airplanes you see coming and going carry our groceries and supplies along with visitors and neighbors. Much of everyday life here happens around the runways and the lake.
Our short tour gives you a little introduction to the place before you head off exploring. The visitor center is a good stop for learning about Lake Clark National Park and asking about the trails.
You don’t have to fill every spare minute. Sometimes it’s enough to take in the view across the bay and enjoy being here.
Heading out on Lake Clark
Once you’re aboard, Port Alsworth becomes the starting point for a different part of your visit. A day or evening sail gives you time on the water, while an overnight stay lets you settle in and explore more of the lake without returning to the village each night.
