Wildlife around Lake Clark

Part of being out on the lake is keeping an eye on the shore. You might spot a moose, a bear or an eagle overhead. Some days bring a surprise, and other days we enjoy the scenery while the wildlife keeps to itself.

There’s time to watch as we sail, sit at anchor or go ashore. Bring binoculars if you have them, and let us know what you’re hoping to see. We can keep an eye out together, but sightings are never something we can promise.

Look for the little things, too

It’s easy to spend the day looking for a bear and miss the birds along the water or tracks on a beach. Those smaller signs are part of getting to know the lake, too.

A shore walk gives you a different view from the boat. We take our time, stay aware of what’s around us and give animals room to go about their day.

Bears and your sailing trip

Both brown and black bears live in Lake Clark National Park. We’ve seen bears along the shore, near home and even swimming across the lake. Seeing one while we’re out is memorable, but we don’t approach or crowd an animal for a closer look.
